Bear to Make a Difference Gala & Celebrity Teddy Bear Auction

Bryce Thomason to represent GayAgenda at the Matthew Shepard Foundation’s Bear to Make a Difference Gala & Celebrity Teddy Bear Auction. Now it it’s 13th year the Matthew Shepard Foundation, honors Matthew in a manner that was appropriate to his dreams, beliefs, and aspirations. The Foundation seeks to “Replace Hate with Understanding, Compassion, & Acceptance” by encouraging respect for human dignity and difference by raising awareness, opening dialogues, and promoting positive change.

Shortly after midnight on October 7, 1998 the events that transpired in Laramie Wyoming would become one of the most notorious anti-gay hate crimes in American history. It spawned an activist movement that, more than a decade later, would result in passage of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, a federal law against bias crimes directed at lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered people.

Tonight, GayAgenda will join others from around the world in Denver, Colorado for the foundation’s largest annual fundraiser, the Bear To Make A Difference Gala and Celebrity Teddy Bear Auction. The silent auction event includes special autographed bears created by notable celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Elton John, Bette Midler, Dolly Parton, Barbara Streisand, Jon Stewart and many others.

Stay tuned as we will bring you photos and notes from the event tomorrow.
