Many of us in the glbt community have struggled to come out to our parents. Some, like myself, have been able to slowly change the minds of our parents. Perhaps, in time Brad's mom will do the same but it seems she certainly has a long ways to go.
It is simply ridiculous that many heterosexual individuals still feel that they have the social and moral superiority required to tell homosexuals how we should live our lives. It is the 21st century, but things and attitudes have not changed much for many. This is very sad.
